Baytown Race Track 07-27-2003

Today was all about Japanese 4 cylinder turbo versus American V8 muscle with NOS.  Since I was AWD, I knew I would get the launch at about 3 to 4 car lengths.  Only God knew if I would be able to cross the finish line before the V8 NOS would catch me because it will catch me.  The trick is will it catch me before 1320 feet?  All the guys have had weeks of debate and the bets were laid.  It was on.  V8 NOS spent all week prepping for the "big showdown" and did I.

It started off as a good day that went disastrously bad.  My very first run, I blew the motor just before half track.  As I got into third gear, I felt the power drop and my gauges went crazy.  I saw knock as high as 53 and I knew something was wrong. but I was still going so I finished the run.  As I pulled over I saw smoke and smelled something I hadn't before so I pulled the hood to find a fire and oil everywhere.  With my helmet still on, I grabbed my fire extinguisher and put out the oil fire originating from inside the exhaust heat shields.  The motor is toast.  Still managed to pull a 13.3 even though more than half the track was done on 3 cylinders.

The bet was won.  V8 NOS pulled a 13.9 on that run and spent the rest of the night trying to beat my half track blown motor 13.3.  V8 NOS managed a 13.4 best.

It was a bad day for both of us.  I blew up and he never matched his normal high 12's.

The pictures below tell the story.
